In 2016, I published a book titled "Opus Dei as divine revelation", focused on some critical aspect of Opus Dei as organization. At the suggestion of some readers, since that book is very comprehensive (576 pages), I decided to publish separately what is probably one of the most important chapters of it, related to the vocation to Opus Dei, so that readers could learn what it is about before joining Opus Dei.
Catholics are invited to live a lay vocation, but the life they start living within Opus Dei (in particular, celibate members) is proper to religious. During his whole life, Msgr. Escrivá denied that such a situation could ever be possible, but in fact, that was what happened and still happens today. The phenomenon that could be called “dissociation” is one of the most peculiar characteristic of Opus Dei: its celibate members astonishingly live in a denial (double standards) without being aware that their lay identity is in conflict with their way of life (religious).
