The analytical and computational techniques used to simulate and study complex mathematical models have evolved significantly in recent years, which has widened the applicability of mathematical models in the investigation of real-world problems. Although mathematical models find application in nearly every area of engineering science, they are most extensively applied in basic scientific research in the areas of mathematical ecology, epidemiology, environmental systems, and the study of fluid flow problems.
